Heads up, Cookeville commuters: your route may need a slight detour come early July. As reported by the official City of Cookeville website, the southbound lane of S. Willow Avenue is set to close on Wednesday, July 2, for a day-long construction marathon from dawn to dusk. Construction crews from Rogers Group will be on site, hard at work installing shiny new concrete curb, gutters, and sidewalks from Short Street down to Country Bumpkin's front door.
The closure is scheduled to commence precisely at 5 a.m. and aims to wrap up by approximately 6 p.m. the same day. In order to accommodate this disruption, southbound traffic will now be temporarily shifted into the inner turn lane to continue their journey unhindered. To guide the travelers through this maze of orange, traffic cones, signs, and flaggers will stand as silent sentinels, ensuring that everyone gets to where they need to be safely.
However, if the skies decide not to play nice and adverse weather conditions arise, drivers should be prepared for the lane closure to extend overnight — the southbound thoroughfare would remain barricaded until the morning of July 3, when workers would pick up where they left off. For any souls seeking knowledge or assistance regarding this temporary inconvenience, the City of Cookeville Public Works Department can be reached at 931-520-5249.
