A Florida woman, Margarita Alexandra Purifory, has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse after a child was found playing with a bag of chips, which led to a violent encounter. According to CBS12, the incident was reported to authorities Wednesday, and subsequently, the Delray Beach Police Department responded to a call from Bethesda Memorial Hospital.
Details from the arrest affidavit offer a distressing narrative. They claim the suspect, Margarita Purifory, grabbed the child by the arm, digging her nails in, leaving cuts on the arm and a laceration on the face requiring stitches. A witness also reported seeing the child being chased by Purifory, throwing an unidentified object at him, which he luckily managed to dodge. When queried about her actions, Purifory justified that the child was "making a mess with his food."
Purifory’s booking information has been made public by Recently Booked, confirming she was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on June 19, 2025. Her booking number is 2025016160, and she is facing charges under the statute 827.03 2A (FF), which corresponds to cruelty toward a child and aggravated child abuse.
The child divulged to investigators, "A woman is accused of beating a child with a 'brown stick' after he was found to be playing with a bag of chips," he jumped on the bed to evade her. According to the child's testimony, Purifory hit him in the face with the stick. After the incident, Purifory allegedly instructed the child to "wash up and lay down," as per the police report obtained by CBS12. The injuries sustained by the victim were serious enough to prompt the witness to take him to the hospital.
The case has sparked outrage and concern among residents, highlighting the severity of child abuse cases, and the necessity for vigilance and systemic intervention. Her arrest at this point should not be interpreted as a conviction, and the charges presented are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
