A somber cloud hangs over DePaul University as the school and Chicago police have confirmed the death of 20-year-old men's soccer player Chase Stegall. Stegall, who was found unresponsive in his dorm room on North Kenmore Avenue, was pronounced dead on the scene early Monday morning. The unfortunate discovery was made around 8:30 a.m., and authorities have since launched a death investigation to determine the cause, which remains under scrutiny pending autopsy results, as relayed by WGN-TV.
The school's athletics department jointly expressed its sorrow, as Director DeWayne Peevy and head coach Mark Plotkin described Stegall as "a cherished member of our community, dedicated teammate and kind-hearted friend." They affirmed that the university would provide support to Stegall's family and teammates, emphasizing the depth of the loss within the DePaul family. The joint statement, according to a CBS News report, added that Stegall's memory "will forever be a part of DePaul University."
The university has yet to release details concerning a memorial service but has promised that information will be forthcoming, asking for the public to respect the privacy of Stegall's family during this difficult time.
