In a tragic turn of events on the roads of Pacific Beach, San Diego Police Department Watch Commander Sgt David Nilsen reported a fatal traffic collision involving a Chevrolet Corvette and a Jeep Cherokee. The incident, which took place at the intersection of Mission Bay Drive and Grand Avenue, occurred at around 9:55 PM yesterday and left one passenger dead at the scene.
According to the details furnished by the San Diego Police Department, a 21-year-old male driving southbound in a Corvette at what has been described as "a high rate of speed," clashed with a northbound Jeep making a northwest turn, the young man's failure to halt at a red light appears to have been the catalyst for this fatal encounter. The Corvette's adult female passenger succumbed to her injuries at the site of the collision while the driver of the Corvette sustained significant injuries, including fractures to his left leg and ankle, the driver of the Jeep reported pain, but more alarming was the condition of the Jeep's 36-year-old female passenger who suffered fractures to her right leg and thigh.
DUI is suspected to be a component in the destructive sequence of events, and authorities are actively seeking any additional information. The San Diego Police Department urges those who may have witnessed the accident or possess any related information to step forward and contact the appropriate officials or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
