Last week, a collaborative effort between the FBI Miami and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office resulted in a series of arrests and seizures in South Florida, as part of an ongoing initiative dubbed Operation Viper. The 2-day crackdown, occurring from Thursday, May 29 to Friday, May 30, focused on dismantling local threats involving drugs, firearms, and violent crimes. According to a press release on the FBI's website, the operation led to 21 arrests and the seizure of seven firearms, among other enforcement outcomes.

As the investigations carried out by the joined forces of the FBI’s Violent Crime and Fugitive Task Force and FBI Miami, federal prosecutions have already been initiated for two individuals. Assisting the agencies, a single residential search warrant was executed, furthering the scope of the inquiry into these criminal activities. The FBI has committed to an unyielding stance against threat actors in the region, stating, "The FBI is dedicated to investigating threat actors who not only commit violent crimes, but also make our communities and citizens feel less safe," Ryan James, assistant special agent in Charge of FBI Miami, said. "We will not tolerate this illegal activity in South Florida. Through our violent crime task forces and initiatives such as Operation Viper, the FBI and Miami Field Office will continue to combat violent crime on all fronts," as noted by the same press release.

Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz praised the outcome of the partnership with the federal agency: "Our partnership with the FBI continues to deliver real results in the fight against violent crimes. If you’re bringing guns, drugs, or violence into our neighborhoods, we will find you, and we will take action. I’m proud of the relentless work by our Northside District deputies and grateful for the support of our federal partners who share our commitment to keeping Miami-Dade safe," she said. This assertive posture reflects a broader strategy outlined by the FBI to address violent crime, which the public can learn more about via their official website.
