Heads up, Fort Lauderdale residents and anyone passing through: the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has scheduled maintenance work on the SE 17th Street Causeway Bridge that's sure to impact traffic. According to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s official website, single-lane closures are scheduled from Thursday, June 26, through Wednesday, July 2, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM daily.
During these times, one direction of the bridge will be shut down at a time to allow crews to make the necessary up-light repairs. Due to this being a major thoroughfare—particularly for commuters heading to and from the area's beaches and businesses—drivers can expect heavier-than-usual traffic congestion. Travelers are advised to allow for extra travel time or consider alternate routes where possible.
