According to a report by 7News, fans were spotted outside of a Best Buy in Pembroke Pines and a GameStop in Davie, some arriving as early as 3 PM to secure their place in line for the midnight launch. Despite a hefty price tag of $449.99, the new console has been anticipated to outsell its predecessor's debut year.
The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger, more vibrant display and improved hardware that gamers have been eagerly awaiting for eight years. In a statement obtained by 7News, one fan expressed their excitement, saying, "I’m so excited, I’ve been a Nintendo fan for a long, long time." Another noted, "It’s just exciting," highlighting the communal atmosphere of the queues. To potentially play endlessly, Arif Baksh told 7News, "Every day," highlighting the dedication of the gaming community.
In a detailed report by NBC Miami, it was mentioned that queues were also observed at other locations, including a Best Buy in Miami and GameStop in Hialeah. The new console includes features like an updated "C" button and a GameChat functionality which requires a subscription to Nintendo’s online service, as well as a built-in microphone for in-game chatting. Nintendo has projected to sell upwards of 15 million units for the fiscal year through March 2026.
The original Nintendo Switch stands as the third best-selling console behind the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo DS, with the new Switch 2 described by George Jijiashvili, a senior principal analyst for Omidia, “The Switch 2 is pretty much the Switch 1, but more powerful,” according to a 7News interview. Fans, who have come both alone and with family, have expressed their joy at the launch, with parents supporting their children's enthusiasm. One such parent told 7News, "It’s a dream come true for him," speaking of his child's anticipation for the new gaming system.
