Tragedy struck Harris County yesterday evening when a 12-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run incident. The boy was riding his bike along the 11900 block of Suburban Road when he lost control and fell into the street, only to be struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. According to FOX 26 Houston, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County confirmed the series of events leading to the fatal accident.
Citizens nearby gave an account of a black sedan speeding away after failing to stop at a stop sign. They reported seeing fragments of the victim's bicycle scattered across the road, as well as parts from the car itself. These same individuals attempted to save the young boy's life by performing CPR until paramedics arrived, as detailed in the statement obtained by Click2Houston. Despite their efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are now on the lookout for the black Chrysler 300 they believe to be involved in the incident, identified by car parts left at the scene. This vehicle is expected to have noticeable damage to the front end. Anyone with information that could assist the Harris County Sheriff's Office in locating the driver is encouraged to call 713-222-TIPS (8477).
The surveillance video captured by a nearby home revealed another element to this tragic tale: a dog chasing the child prior to the accident. This may have contributed to the boy's loss of control over his bicycle, especially since he encountered an unstable patch of sand or gravel, according to the investigation. The name of the child has not been released, nor has the identity of the suspect come to light at this time.
