The curtain at Garden Theatre is set to rise again with the newly announced Summer Flix at the Garden movie series, signaling a fresh start for the historic Winter Garden landmark. The theatre, located at 160 W. Plant St., is reopening its doors with a kickoff featuring Disney's "Encanto" on June 10 at 10 a.m., according to ClickOrlando. The series concludes on August 5 with the family favorite "Lilo and Stitch," wrapping a summer filled with films for all ages.
In the wake of facing financial difficulties last year, the theatre was forced to shut down. Still, thanks to a unanimous decision by city leaders back in April, a new life has been breathed into the Garden Theatre through a variety of events, including concerts, movies, and special events. With tickets priced at only $5, the series offers a cost-effective way to beat the summer heat while taking a trip down nostalgia lane with classics, alongside newer family-friendly hits. Special treats are on the menu for the young attendees, with kids under 12 receiving free popcorn during the 10 a.m. movies, as reported by the Orange Observer.
The full lineup showcases a diverse range of films, from the adventures of "The Goonies" to the high-stakes drama "Days of Thunder." The theatre also plans to entice movie buffs with double features in July, including "Beetlejuice" and a creatively named sequel on July 24, followed by a "Top Gun" double-bill on July 31.
Patrons looking to purchase tickets need to visit the Summer Flix at the Garden website, as purchases can only be made online.
