An Indiana State Police trooper has found himself on the other side of the law, as 39-year-old Andrew Kocsis faces charges that include theft, obstruction of justice, and fraud. After an investigation beginning mid-October 2024 sparked by a victim's complaint, Kocsis is currently in the throes of legal scrutiny.
Details from FOX59 indicate that the charges against Kocsis are serious, carrying the weight of a Level 6 felony for theft and obstruction of justice, and a Class A misdemeanor for fraud. While specifics of the allegations remain under wraps, the theft charge applies to property valued between $750 and $50,000. His initial court date is scheduled for July 8, at the St. Joseph County Superior Court 2.
Court documents, as noted by WIBC, do not disclose the complete narrative of Kocsis' alleged crimes. However, it is known that former Grant County prosecutor, James D. Luttrell, oversaw the case as a special prosecutor. The Indiana State Police have placed Kocsis on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the legal proceedings and an internal investigation.
According to WNDU, Andrew Kocsis has been a trooper since 2008, and was recently stationed at the ISP General Headquarters in Indianapolis.
