In a substantial crackdown against domestic violence, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Violent Crime Unit has successfully coordinated an arrest sweep, as reported on their social media. This concerted operation, dubbed Operation Domestic Disruption VI, spanned several days from Sunday to yesterday, and included partnerships with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the US Marshalls Service, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. According to the IMPD's social media post, their efforts led to the arrest of 11 fugitives on felony domestic violence charges involving 35 criminal counts across 12 arrest warrants.
Armed with warrants, detectives and deputies fanned out across the community, zeroing in on individuals charged with domestic violence felonies. In an effort to highlight the far-reaching impacts of domestic violence – which can be physical, emotional, or psychological – IMPD emphasized in their statement that there is no room for such abuse in homes or communities. Following these arrests, another layer of community response comes into play. The Indy Public Safety Foundation’s Domestic Violence Champions steps in to support victims, a move crucial to their recovery and to the prevention of further incidents.
The statement issued by IMPD elucidated on post-arrest efforts as well, highlighting the role of the Indy Public Safety Foundation’s Domestic Violence Champions. This group, as per the shared information, engages victims post-arrest to assist with establishing protective measures and to connect them with vital social services. Providing timely assistance and resources, it is a testament to their belief that, "Everyone deserves a life and relationships free from abuse."
IMPD also provided contact information for individuals seeking help, underscoring the range of options available for those affected by domestic violence. Concerned parties are encouraged to reach out to Indy Champions at (317)210-0866 or the IMPD’s Victim Assistant Unit at (317)327-3331.
