In an update, a joint motion to dismiss the lawsuit was officially approved at 9:57 a.m. (MDT) on Monday by Judge Coral Sanchez. Reports from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, as cited by KSL Sports, hint that Jake Retzlaff is planning to transfer from the BYU football program, a possible consequence of the controversy tied to the lawsuit and the athlete's expected suspension for allegedly breaching the university's honor code.
The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe A.G., had initially filed the civil lawsuit back in May, accusing Retzlaff of forcing her to perform sexual acts against her will in his Provo home in November 2023. In response, FOX 13 detailed that Retzlaff denied the allegations and claimed that the sexual contact was consensual.
Adding to the narrative, rumors surfaced suggesting Retzlaff's departure from BYU football is linked to a likely multi-game suspension for engaging in premarital sex, a breach of the faith-based institution's strict honor code. A comment about the dismissal of the case is expected from Retzlaff's attorney, Mark Baute, "later this week," according to KSL Sports.
