A tragic incident occurred early Tuesday morning at the Granville CTA station in Edgewater, where a man was pronounced dead after being hit by a Red Line train. The Chicago Police confirmed the fatality, which resulted in trains bypassing the Granville station in both directions and disrupted service on the Red and Purple lines during the morning commute.
The CTA announced that full service had since been restored, but not before the incident created inconvenience, with shuttle buses provided between Wilson and 95th Street to facilitate stranded commuters. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the unidentified man was hit by the train at approximately 9 a.m.
Area 3 detectives have launched an investigation into the events leading up to the man's death, but his identity remains undisclosed. Adding to the delay, the CTA requested shuttle buses from Howard to Wilson as an interim measure, stating that trains were operating only between Wilson and 95th due to the emergency, as per the Chicago Sun-Times.
