In a recent Annual Report, Chief Strategy Officer Joshua Bowman laid out a roadmap of economic growth for the city of Maricopa, as presented by the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO). Notable achievements in local job market expansion, small business development, and strategic project evaluation dominated the update, signaling a robust economic upswing for the region.

As the work landscape shifts, Maricopa eyes a substantial increase in employment, with forecasts predicting over 14% growth from 2023-2033, according to the Arizona State Office of Economic Opportunity. A key element in this employment surge is the recent completion of a master plan and feasibility study for the Industrial Business Park. The 1,200-acre complex, with potential for more than 10 million square feet of industrial and manufacturing facilities, could yield over 10,000 local jobs. "The City of Maricopa is currently not known as a place for big industry but the steps we’ve taken over the past year as well as our future planning progress is aiming to change that," Bowman told Maricopa's news release.

Maricopa's commitment to supporting fledgling enterprises is evident in the Estrella Gin project, which is positioned to provide over 135,000 square feet of mixed-use, retail, and office space. This development, still in the pre-application phase, is expected to cater to the burgeoning needs of new small businesses seeking real estate in the city.

OEO's approach to project evaluation has evolved into a refined, data-driven process, with over 250 project information forms received from business prospects within the last year. These submissions, sourced from entities such as the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) and the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), help inform the city on prospective development opportunities that align with the needs of the community and foster job creation for residents.

The revelations from the 2024 report presented by Maricopa’s OEO reflect the city's journey towards becoming a vibrant, self-supported economy. With a strategic focus on attracting business, ensuring workforce readiness, and fostering innovation, the foundation for Maricopa's long-term prosperity appears to be well underway.
