The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that the Black Bayou Pontoon Bridge along LA 384 (Big Lake Rd) is off-limits to vehicle traffic until further notice. The closure, attributed to mechanical issues, was reported to have started impacting motorists as of yesterday, June 15. According to an announcement on the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development website, while vehicles can no longer cross, the bridge will still open for boats and other marine traffic passing beneath.
To circumvent the inconvenience, drivers are advised to use the alternative route provided by the Grand Lake Pontoon Bridge on the same LA 384. This reroute is not the most ideal scenario for local drivers, who will now have to possibly adjust their daily commutes to factor in this sudden change. There was no immediate word on how long the repairs are expected to take to once again allow vehicles to safely traverse the Black Bayou.
Motorists are encouraged to plan for extra travel time and to stay tuned to local traffic updates. Regular updates on the status of the bridge repairs and its reopening to vehicles are expected to be provided by the Louisiana Department of Transportation. As the detour continues to be in place, commuters must be prepared to adapt quickly, and to frequently check their routes beforehand to avoid being caught off-guard by any unforeseen delays.
