Residents can expect a smoother commute as city crews and contractors are diligently working to improve the conditions of local roadways throughout the summer. According to an update from the City of Medford, the work is a part of the City’s maintenance program, targeting 802 lane miles of roadways for preservation and upgrades. The Public Works Department's Surface Maintenance Crew has wrapped up the asphalt overlay on Corona Avenue and is set to continue with a series of other street improvements.
Scheduled to start from July 14 and extend into September, overlay projects will tackle Highway 62, Barrydale Avenue, and the junction of North Phoenix Road and Barnett Road. The streets chosen for these patches and overlays are the result of a pavement management analysis accounting for street classification and the volumes of traffic they bear, though the analysis did not elaborate on its specifics.
Throughout the season, patching work is also planned for numerous other roads, including Angelcrest Drive, from Highcrest Drive to Cloudcrest Drive; Bradbury Street, from Crater Lake Avenue to Sandra Place; and multiple segments across S. Columbus Avenue and Stewart Avenue, among others. These maintenance efforts are part of a strategy to proactively address roadway wear and tear city-wide.
