Memphis Braces for Mixed Bag of Weather: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Sunny Skies on the Horizon

The National Weather Service in Memphis has provided a detailed forecast for the coming week, with various chances of rain and thunderstorms interspersed with sunny days. According to NWS Memphis, the weather overnight into the morning of June 17th saw a 60% chance of showers, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms, and a low temperature hovering around 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

As the week unfolds, Tuesday will bring a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with weather gradually clearing towards mostly sunny skies and a high near 87 degrees. However, new rainfall amounts could be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. It was reported that Tuesday night will be partly cloudy, with locals expecting a low near 74 degrees and a south wind around 10 mph, calm in the chaos of unpredictable spring weather.

Wednesday's forecast predicts a mostly sunny day with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 pm, while temperatures climb to a high near 92 degrees—heat index values could reach up to 101. Winds will come in from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph. Wednesday night, however, will likely see increased storm activity again before 1 am, and the chance of precipitation sits at 60%, with the possibility of collecting between a quarter and half an inch of new rainfall.

Looking towards the weekend, the weather seems to promise clearer skies. Juneteenth will host a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms amidst partly sunny conditions and a high near 88 degrees. By Friday, the forecast suggests a mostly sunny day with highs inching towards 91, followed by a mostly clear evening with temps taking a slight dip to around 75. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 94, reported NWS Memphis. Finally, leading into early next week, the highs continue to hover in the mid-90s, though there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms come Monday.
