A man was taken into custody yesterday following a standoff with police in southwest Miami-Dade after allegedly assaulting his three children. According to Local 10 News, deputies responded around 2 p.m. to an apartment in the 2000 block of Southwest 122nd Avenue after the man reportedly slammed his 5-year-old son against a wall, causing a laceration. The child was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital and is in stable condition.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office stated that the two other children were also inside the home, as per NBC Miami report. The man allegedly assaulted all three of his children. The other two children were evaluated at the scene and released to their mother.
The man then barricaded himself inside the apartment, prompting a standoff with law enforcement. SWAT teams used loudspeakers and deployed at least six tear gas canisters in an effort to get him to surrender. Officers eventually entered the apartment and arrested him without injury.
The identity of the man and the charges he may face have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
