After a disconcerting disappearance that lasted nearly six weeks, Alisa Petrov, the 15-year-old from South Jordan, has been located safe and sound over 500 miles away from her home, in Colorado Springs. According to ABC4, Officer Shaun Becker from the South Jordan Police Department confirmed the teen was found and is in good health. Petrov arrived at the Colorado Springs Police Department on a quiet Sunday evening, bringing an end to the anxious search that had begun in April.
Petrov's case drew significant attention not only for the length of her absence, but also due to the troubling online interactions that surfaced during the investigation, engagements with older men that included deeply troubling sex chats. One of the men, in particular, was reported to have been coaxing her into meeting him, as detailed by the New York Post. While found over 500 miles from her home, it remains unconfirmed how she arrived in Colorado Springs or if her journey was made under coercive circumstances.
The details around her disappearance and what transpired during the weeks she was missing are still murky. Officers have not determined if she had been held against her will or the exact nature of her journey to Colorado. Sgt. Shaun Becker of the South Jordan Police conveyed to KUTV that the police are investigating further despite the relief of her safe return. "She turned herself into the Colorado Springs Police Department earlier in the evening," Becker remarked, noting the teen appeared to be well and safe.
