In the campaign's fifth week, the efforts remain steadfast, with officers pulling over 96 vehicles and making 11 DUI arrests, according to Montgomery County Police. The task force's initiative, which encompasses officers from the Alcohol Initiatives Unit and Alcohol Enforcement Section, is a coordinated push to ensure that the roads remain safe for everyone this summer.
The week-long crackdown, which lasted from June 15 through June 21, led to not only arrests but also a considerable number of citations. A total of 125 traffic citations were handed out, alongside 136 warnings and a single equipment repair order. The numbers speak to a concerted effort to not simply punish but to educate and potentially correct problematic behaviors on the road. Officers were actively looking to both temper and prevent dangerous driving habits to secure a safe environment for all Montgomery County's road users.
It is vital to highlight that the 11 DUI arrests reported are limited solely to those made by task force officers; additional arrests were made by patrol officers in their regular course of duties. Consequently, the comprehensive DUI arrest count for that period is substantially higher, emphasizing the breadth of the police's commitment to combating impaired driving.
The task force's success is bolstered by collaboration with several allied agencies, all of whom are bringing their resources to bear in this initiative. Included in this alliance are the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Maryland State Police, with contributions from the SPIDRE Team and Rockville Barrack, and Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
