Early Monday morning, a tragic accident on the Stevenson Expressway claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman from Morris, Illinois. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the victim was a passenger in a green Subaru Forester that collided with another vehicle near Illinois 53 in Bolingbrook around 3:20 a.m.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. Illinois State Police informed ABC 7 Chicago that following the crash, the right lane of southbound I-55 was closed and remained shut down until later in the morning. The driver of the Subaru sustained no injuries in the incident.
While the causes behind the collision remain unclear at this time, officials are engaging in a thorough investigation. As the community awaits more details, the Illinois State Police has not yet commented on the potential factors contributing to the crash.
