West Houston was the site of a fatal accident last night involving a motorcyclist and two cars, with the crash resulting in the death of the motorcyclist. According to Click2Houston, the collision happened on Westheimer near the Sam Houston Tollway in West Chase as a Toyota attempted to cross the westbound lanes and turn left, colliding with an unsuspecting motorcyclist.
The force of impact with the Toyota propelled the motorcyclist into the opposite lanes, where an eastbound Honda hit him head-on. The rider, whose identity remained undisclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. KHOU reports that Sgt. Dallas with the Houston Police Department indicated that the motorcycle "struck the front left corner panel of the Toyota and it sent it into oncoming traffic." These events unfolded just before 11 p.m., illustrating the abrupt peril that the night claimed.
The driver of the Honda, who authorities say was not seriously injured, was checked at the scene before deciding to take himself to the hospital. Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota, a central figure in this tragedy, remained and cooperated with the police during the investigation. Officers at the scene found no signs of intoxication, as per the same Click2Houston report.
An ongoing investigation by the Houston Police Department is trying to piece together the events, where it is suggested that an improper lane change by the Toyota might have been at fault. "We do believe that there might have been an improper lane change and so she was trying to come across lanes of traffic without ensuring the safety of making sure that lane was safe," said Sgt. Dallas to KHOU. As the circumstances are meticulously examined, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has been contacted for further guidance on the matter.
