The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting that transpired in the Northwest quadrant of the city. The incident, which claimed the life of a young adult male, occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to a release posted on MPD's official website, Third District officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of S Street, Northwest, around 2:57 a.m., where, after hearing gunshots, a male victim with a gunshot wound was discovered. Upon the arrival of DC Fire and EMS, the victim, suffering from his injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as a 21-year-old Brandon Tolson from Northeast, D.C. The circumstances leading up to the shooting and the possible motives behind it remain under investigation, as per the MPD. Police have not released any information regarding suspects or arrests at this time.
