A routine traffic stop on Interstate 40 West in Mt. Juliet led to the arrest of two men, one of whom was wanted in two states. The Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) initiated the stop due to an expired tag and a missing headlight, but the encounter escalated when they discovered a haul of drugs within the vehicle, WSMV reports.
Officers found the driver, a 51-year-old Nashville man in possession of substances such as meth, fentanyl, and crack cocaine, with indications they were intended for resale. Alongside the drugs, paraphernalia was also uncovered. The passenger, a 42-year-old Louisville, Kentucky man, was discovered to have the same drugs and initially gave false information regarding his identity, and he, had active warrants for shoplifting in Nashville and auto theft from Jeffersonville, Indiana, according to WKRN.
Both individuals were arrested following the traffic stop, which occurred on Tuesday night. This apprehension led to the suspects being booked into the Wilson County Jail. The drugs, explicitly mentioned as being "packaged for resale," indicate a potential distribution operation that the MJPD has now disrupted.
The successful interdiction of these individuals is a testament to proactive policing efforts in the Mt. Juliet area. A post from the Mt. Juliet Police on X highlighted the importance of such measures, "Thanks to the keen eyes and quick action of our officer, both individuals were taken into custody and booked into the Wilson County Jail.
A traffic stop on I-40W last night turned into much more. An expired tag and a missing headlight led to the discovery of dangerous drugs and a wanted man from two different states.
