A serious traffic collision in Beach Park is currently under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Crash Investigators following a multi-vehicle crash reported on Thursday evening. According to a statement obtained by Lake County, sheriff's deputies responded to an emergency call around 7:35 p.m. at Lewis Avenue north of Beach Road and found three vehicles with significant damage.

The incident involved a 2004 Mini Cooper driven by a 52-year-old Waukegan man heading northbound on Lewis Avenue, who, as reported by witnesses, appeared to be driving erratically the Mini Cooper then for reasons yet to be determined veered into oncoming traffic causing a head-on collision with a 2004 Buick SUV driven by a 34-year-old also from Waukegan. The chaos didn't end there; the Mini Cooper also collided with a 2018 GMC SUV operated by a 48-year-old woman from Zion. All three vehicles sustained serious damage, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.

The driver of the Mini Cooper sustained critical injuries in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. The occupants of the Buick, including three children, along with the driver of the GMC, were also transported to hospitals with injuries determined to be non-life-threatening; all are expected to recover, according to officials.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, as of now, no charges have been filed and the identities of those involved have not been released pending further investigation we do know that the area was closed off for several hours as investigators worked the scene, collected evidence, and cleared the wreckage before finally reopening late in the evening. The cause of the crash is a key focus of the ongoing investigation.
