A 27-year-old man, identified as Kejarius Dejuan Lawrence, with a prior conviction history, has again found himself behind bars after Nashville detectives caught him driving a stolen vehicle, further complicating his situation by having a loaded handgun on him, authorities reported. Last spotted on 31st Avenue North, the stolen 2016 Volvo XC-90, which was snatched earlier in June and adorned with a mismatched temporary tag, was under the watchful eye of Violent Crimes Division detectives and MNPD Aviation.
Lawrence, reportedly convicted back in 2021 for evading arrest in Coffee County, faced his current arrest without much incident, although not without irony for the ease of his capture, despite efforts to steer clear of the law's encircling gaze. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the Glock handgun found inside the vehicle was resting ominously on the driver's side floorboard, further exacerbating his precarious legal standing. Some scores are settled only by the courts, not in the streets where loaded guns and hot cars spin a narrative all their own.
In what amounts to a costly admission, Lawrence did not hesitate, in an interview with detectives, to acknowledge his awareness of the car's stolen status upon purchase this weekend; his candor does little to diminish the weight of the charges he faces. "Lawrence admitted he knew the Volvo was stolen when he purchased it this weekend," the Nashville Police Department disclosed.
