The New Orleans Police Department has taken into custody a suspect, Jerroy Johnson, as part of a recent homicide investigation, this individual, a black male, was identified through the diligent efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies and has been linked to a duo of violent incidents in New Orleans, as reported in a release NOPD News.

Johnson, apprehended in Slidell last Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Service with cooperation from local authorities, is accused of a June 22 homicide on Morrison Road and a shooting on the first of June, events that spurred the NOPD Seventh District Officers into action that found a man down from gunshot wounds, he was later declared dead at the scene.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office, on June 24, named the homicide victim as 43-year-old Ashley Aples, stating that the preliminary cause of death was gunshot-related injuries. Johnson’s connection to the incidents came to light through an ankle monitoring service, leading to his capture; meanwhile, the female previously sought for questioning has since been found and is not regarded a person of interest anymore.

Following his arrest, Johnson faced initial charges in Slidell but was booked on the corresponding homicide charge post-extradition to Orleans Parish, where the NOPD has expressed their gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the U.S. Marshals, Slidell Police Department, and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office in this complex case though Johnson currently stands innocent until proven guilty, the NOPD urges anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist their ongoing investigation.
