A Northern Illinois University student has been arrested on charges related to child pornography, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Michael B. Erickson, 20, faces multiple counts of production, dissemination, and possession of child pornography, this coming from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office. Erickson's apprehension was consequent to a tip-off received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
In April, the Batavia Police Department commenced its investigation into Erickson after the aforementioned tip alerted them to potential illicit activity. The wheels of justice began to grind, leading to a search warrant for Erickson's dorm room in May, officials said, as reported by ABC 7 Chicago. When authorities executed the warrant, they discovered an array of electronic devices that reportedly contained thousands of images suspected to be child sexual abuse material.
Erickson's arrest took place on Monday near Bayfield Drive in DeKalb, as per ABC 7 Chicago. Following the arrest, the judge overseeing the case granted Erickson a pre-trial release, with his court appearance slated for July 17.
