Noblesville Police Department's Sergeant Jason Shonkwiler has recently been honored with the title of 2025 Indiana School Resource Officers Association (INSROA) School Resource Officer of the Year, according to an announcement on the department's Facebook page. Recognized for his commitment to surpass the standard duties of a School Resource Officer (SRO), Shonkwiler has also been awarded the Exceptional Service Award, which acknowledges his outstanding and continuous service to the school community.
Deputy Chief Jason Thompson praised Sergeant Shonkwiler, emphasizing that his dedication to the students is second to none. "Jason exemplifies the ideal School Resource Officer (SRO). While he possesses exceptional skills as an officer, his most remarkable quality is his genuine care for the students," Thompson said. "He has earned this award through his unwavering commitment to quickly become immersed into the school and its students, whether through daily interactions, managing complex situations, or providing expert coaching."
Shonkwiler's track record at Noblesville High School includes developing strong connections with students and staff, actively contributing to the creation of a secure environment conducive for learning. His involvement ranges from engaging in school safety drills to delivering educational presentations on various topics and offering support and advice to students in need.
The partnership between the Noblesville Police Department and Noblesville Schools highlights the success of their SRO program. It places officers in every school in the district, aiming to seamlessly integrate education, security, and relationship building between law enforcement and the student body. The SROs play a critical role in threat prevention and incident investigation, but also in enriching the community and aiding in the general welfare of the students as demonstrated by Sergeant Shonkwiler's recognized efforts.
