Over the recent weekend, a sequence of events that started with an attempted traffic stop quickly escalated into two separate car pursuits through Oceanside, ending in arrests. The Oceanside Police Department (OPD) reports that its Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) identified and pursued a vehicle believed to be stolen. The initial chase began near Wisconsin Avenue and South Coast Highway and was quickly called off due to public safety concerns. According to the Oceanside Police Department, a subsequent alert from a license plate reader led to the renewal of the chase on the other side of town.

The pursuit picked up again and pushed out into the rural stretches of Bonsall, where the stolen vehicle eventually crashed head-on into a patrol unit, saddled with officers from OPD, who sustained only minor injuries in the collision. The officers, much to the relief of residents, are now in recovery. A brief attempt by the three suspects to escape on foot after the crash was foiled, and all were promptly detained by the authorities.

Inside the recovered vehicle, OPD officers found not only a loaded Glock firearm with an illegal high-capacity magazine but also a variety of narcotics, including Xanax, Adderall, and Oxycodone. The vehicle in question was confirmed stolen from Orange County last month. The suspects, comprising two adults and a minor, were not Oceanside locals and face several serious felony charges, including "felony evading resulting in injury, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a loaded firearm," the Oceanside Police Department's post detailed.
