Commuters in Orleans Parish, take note: parts of I-10, both east and westbound, are set for lane closures starting this Sunday evening, per an announcement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Guardrail repairs are the focus, and they're slated to potentially hamper late-night travel through the week. According to LA DOTD's Announcements released last Friday, eastbound I-10 will see its left lane closed from I-610 to US 90 (Chef Menteur Hwy), starting today at 9:30 PM and ending Friday at 6:30 AM, if the weather permits. The same goes for the westbound side, with the left lane shutting down between Dwyer Rd and Louisa St, starting at 8:30 PM and opening back up at 5:30 AM daily.
The closures will happen every night from tonight through Thursday morning, ending Friday morning. Eastbound lanes will close from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM, and westbound lanes from 8:30 PM to 5:30 AM. These times are chosen to avoid heavy traffic, but night drivers should expect delays or use alternate routes if possible. Planning ahead can help since this work affects a major road like I-10. Drivers should follow construction signs and keep a safe distance from workers for everyone’s safety.
Keep in mind that all roadwork is "weather permitting," suggesting that severe weather might shift the scheduled work, for as consistent as the hum of tires on pavement is the unpredictability of storm and sun this detail is important, for it reminds us that human planning often bows to the dictates of the skies. Commuters can stay updated on these and other traffic advisories by checking the LA DOTD's website or tuning into local traffic news before heading out; staying informed is the best way to navigate the inevitable shifts in the city's traffic landscape.
