Residents and commuters in Pompano Beach should prepare for traffic changes near Hammondville Road and Andrews Avenue as a drainage replacement project begins tomorrow. Conducted by the Public Works’ Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division, the work will be performed 24/7 and is expected to last about ten days, weather permitting.

According to the Broward County website, the project addresses severe settling in the current drainage structure, which has caused a significant depression in the travel lane. The replacement will reach depths of more than 14 feet.

To facilitate construction, eastbound traffic on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (Hammondville Road) from Powerline Road to NW 16th Avenue will be detoured. Westbound traffic on Hammondville Road will remain unaffected.

For more information, residents can contact the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division at 954-357-6040. Project Manager Stanley Bateman can be reached at 954-647-6490 or [email protected].

The project is funded through gas-tax revenue and is intended to improve drainage and road safety in the area.
