Richmond's South F Street became the focal point of a Wayne County Sheriff’s Office drug bust this week, resulting in the arrest of a repeat offender. In an operation that highlighted the persistent struggle against the illicit flow of narcotics in the area, detectives apprehended Davonta “Hotboy” Chatman, a name not unfamiliar to law enforcement. As stated on the Wayne County, Indiana Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, multiple ounces of fentanyl and cocaine were seized from the residence.
Accumulating over 160 grams of fentanyl and 93 grams of cocaine through two separate investigations, Wayne County, Indiana Sheriff’s Office's ongoing efforts to dismantle local drug distribution have been palpable. Chatman, who now has the dubious distinction of facing his second arrest on similar charges this year, was found conducting his alleged business with more than $12,000 in drug money. Owing to their success in collaborative law enforcement efforts, Chief Deputy Alan Moore commended the work of the detectives, along with the assistance provided by the Richmond Police Department, and thanked the detectives for their dedication to removing drugs from the streets. "Our investigators are doing a great job getting dangerous drugs off the streets in Wayne County," More commented on the effectiveness of the teams involved.
Chatman is facing two Level 2 felony charges: Dealing in Cocaine and Dealing in a Narcotic Drug. He remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Authorities say the case highlights ongoing concerns about drug-related offenses in Richmond and the broader challenges faced by smaller communities in addressing narcotics distribution.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office continues its efforts to address drug-related activity in the area. Officials state that while arrests like Chatman’s are part of ongoing enforcement operations, drug trafficking remains a persistent issue.
