Get8 Sports launched the inaugural Breakaway Holiday Classic on December 20, 2025, as a four-game event at Corteva Coliseum on the Indiana State Fairgrounds, with founder Josh Rattray building it around neutral-court high school basketball paired with fan entertainment and a holiday market. For its second year, the event has grown to five games and shifted north to Hamilton County.
A Champion-Versus-Runner-Up Showdown Headlines the Card
The full schedule, per the same IndyStar report, includes Barr-Reeve against Westview at 2:10 p.m., Lawrence North against Fort Wayne Snider at 4:05 p.m., and New Albany against Guerin Catholic at 6:05 p.m., before the Hamilton Southeastern-Crown Point finale. The second game carries particular weight: Barr-Reeve enters as the reigning Class 1A state champion, having beaten Triton 50-37 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on March 28, 2026, to finish 28-1 under first-year head coach Heath Howington, according to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. It was the third Class 1A title in Barr-Reeve program history.
Westview, meanwhile, arrives as the 2026 Class 2A runner-up after a heartbreaking finish of its own. The team entered the state finals with an undefeated 27-0 postseason record before falling 57-56 to Parke Heritage on a game-winning layup with 10 seconds left, closing the season 27-2. Opening the showcase, Sheridan — a Class 2A program that finished 19-5 last season — brings back all-state senior Trey Page, who averaged 19.3 points per game and shot 39 percent from three-point range, IndyStar reports. Sheridan's opponent, Liberty Christian, is expected to be one of the top Class 1A teams again after a 19-8 season that ended in a two-point semistate loss to eventual state champion Barr-Reeve. The program will return Kendrick Martin, who averaged 17.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season, for another run at a title, per IndyStar's reporting.
The night's final game brings Class 4A into focus, pairing co-host Hamilton Southeastern with Crown Point, the 2026 Class 4A state runner-up. Crown Point held a 10-point lead at halftime of that championship game before falling 52-50 to Mt. Vernon (Fortville), according to WTHR, closing the season 25-2. Hamilton Southeastern's athletic facility sits in neighboring Fishers, making the matchup a natural local draw for the arena's opening season.
Guerin Catholic Brings Local Coaching Continuity to Game 4
Guerin Catholic, the Noblesville program set to face New Albany, named alumnus Sam Gardner as head boys basketball coach in May 2025, succeeding former head coach Bobby Allen, according to Guerin Catholic High School Athletics. Gardner played for founding coach Pete Smith and served as an assistant during the school's 2015 Class 3A state championship season, giving the program a direct link to its own basketball history as it competes in the new venue.
That venue is itself part of the story.
