A violent altercation that erupted into gunfire at the Epic Vibe Residences in Miramar yesterday afternoon escalated further when a suspect carjacked a civilian near a local Aldi supermarket. According to Miramar Police, an argument among three individuals at the apartment complex led to a shootout, with over 20 rounds estimated to have been fired. NBC Miami reports that following the shootout, two people were shot outside the Aldi.
The sequence of events saw one of the suspects involved in the original incident carjack a woman adjacent to the Aldi, a detail confirmed by Miramar Police. One victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was transported by emergency services, while the other managed to drive themselves to the hospital. The condition of the second victim currently remains unknown, as cited by Local 10 News. The police successfully apprehended one of the suspects after a vehicular pursuit, which ended with the suspect abandoning the car.
Authorities are still piecing together the chaotic chain of events to determine if one of the victims shot was part of the initial altercation. An investigation into whether the gunfire continued near the Aldi is also underway. Meanwhile, the area saw a swift response from law enforcement, who established a perimeter and set up a command post at 12280 Miramar Boulevard as part of their ongoing search for the remaining suspects.
The incident has left a palpable sense of unease among local residents. "I heard a lot of shots — multiple shots — and it just got crazy," Jannea Wolf, a resident of the Miramar area, told Local 10 News.
