A man's elaborate scheme came to an end after a federal jury convicted him of fraud for impersonating a flight attendant to travel for free. Tiron Alexander, 35, was found guilty of wire fraud and unlawfully entering secure airport areas under false pretenses, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida.

Between 2018 and 2024, Alexander blazed a trail of free travel on 34 flights by exploiting an airline carrier’s website intended for airline employees. Posing as a crew member, who claimed to be a flight attendant for various airlines, he maneuvered through a booking process that required him to provide false employment details - including seven different airlines, around 30 badge numbers, and multiple dates of hire. The scheme was widespread, extending across three major airlines and resulting in more than 120 unauthorized flights, as detailed by the same press release.

The details of Alexander’s deceit came to light during the trial, revealing the depth of his deception. The trial resulted in a verdict that is expected to be followed by sentencing on August 25, at the hands of U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Becerra, as she takes into consideration the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. The sentencing was scheduled by an announcement made by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida and TSA Special Agent in Charge Antonio L. Pittman.

The TSA's investigation peeled back layers of Alexander's confounding caper. Assisted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael C. Shepherd, Zachary A. Keller, and Andres E. Chinchilla, the case highlighted how Alexander's well-orchestrated falsehoods secured him a seat on flights that should have cost him. Information on this case can be dug up on the Southern District of Florida's District Court's website or the PACER system, case number 24-cr-20466.
