Inside, crews located an adult male trapped in the structure and pulled him out before rushing him to the hospital.
The timeline of the response comes from WPLG Local 10, which reported that firefighters searched the burning home after receiving word that someone might be trapped inside. According to WSVN 7News, Fort Lauderdale police and fire rescue units also responded to the area of Northwest 16th Street and 19th Avenue, where crews knocked down the flames upon arrival and found one incapacitated person during a subsequent search.
One Fort Lauderdale firefighter sustained minor burns while battling the residential blaze and received medical treatment, according to Local 10. The rescued man was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, a designated Level 1 Adult Trauma Center that provides round-the-clock specialized trauma and critical emergency care.
Cause and Condition Remain Unclear
WSVN 7News reported that the cause of the fire is unknown, and the hospitalized man's condition has not been released. The reports do not discuss smoke detection equipment at the home.

Monday's fire adds to a string of recent residential blazes handled by Fort Lauderdale crews. On August 25, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spent 20 minutes battling a heavy structure fire at a mobile home in the 1000 block of Northeast 63rd Court that displaced two residents, according to CBS News Miami.

State Rules Target Faulty Smoke Alarms
Under Florida Statute § 553.883 and the Florida Building Code, single-family homes undergoing repairs or alterations must use smoke alarms powered by sealed, non-removable 10-year batteries if they are not hardwired into the electrical system. The rule was designed to prevent smoke detector failures caused by missing or dead batteries.
