The San Francisco Police Department reported taking into custody a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run collision that left a young child with life-threatening injuries. The 35-year-old male, Jonathan Tyler Lam, was arrested in Daly City on Sunday, bringing a close to a search that began after the May 24 incident. According to the San Francisco Police Department, the collision occurred at roughly 6:14 PM at the intersection of 31st Ave. and Clement St., where a vehicle struck an adult female and her 5-year-old child on a push bike. The driver then fled the scene without offering assistance or identifying themselves.
Investigators from the SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit (TCIU) took the lead on this case, developing enough probable cause to obtain arrest and search warrants for Lam and the vehicle believed to be involved. On Sunday, they located and apprehended Lam on the unit block of Serramonte Center, Daly City, where he was taken into custody, and then later, he was booked into the San Francisco County Jail for felony hit and run, with a bail set at $100,000.
Despite the arrest, the SFPD has made it clear that the investigation remains active. They urge anyone with further information to come forward and contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or to deliver tips anonymously by texting to TIP411, beginning the message with SFPD.
