A 16-year-old has been charged with four counts of aggravated murder following the devastating WestFest shooting that claimed the lives of two adults, an 8-month-old baby, and an unborn child. Matthiaz Cantre Lauti Ioane-Register is the alleged perpetrator behind the violence that erupted at Centennial Park during the WestFest carnival, as reported by KUTV.
The incident took place at around 9:15 p.m. on a Sunday, leaving the community of West Jordan in shock. In addition to the murder charges, Ioane-Register faces multiple counts of discharge of a firearm, which include five first-degree felonies, one second-degree felony, and three third-degree felonies, as detailed by KSL. The deceased have been identified as Fnu Reena, 41, Hassan Lugundi, 18, and an 8-month-old boy who was not related to any other victims.
Further complicating this tragedy, it has been revealed that both Ioane-Register and Lugundi had affiliations with local gangs, according to KSL NewsRadio.
