The Metropolitan Police Department disclosed that a third suspect has been apprehended in connection with a fatal shooting in Southeast back in 2023. In a statement released yesterday, officials confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Avery Taylor from Southeast, DC, directly linking him to the crime that claimed the life of 39-year-old Dwayne Barbour. According to the official police report, Taylor was detained on Thursday, and now faces charges of First Degree Murder While Armed-Felony Murder.
Investigative efforts had previously led to the arrest of two teenagers, Rayon Davis Jr. and Quintin Reed, both 17 at the time of their arrest in August 2024. Charged as adults, the duo was apprehended with substantial assistance from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. They both were charged with First Degree Murder while Armed-Felony Murder, an outcome set in motion by the fateful evening of December 20, 2023, when police responded to the distressing scene after 8:55 p.m. in the 2900 block of Knox Place.
The victim, Barbour, was found with critical gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital. Despite the immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries on December 31, 2023.
The pursuit of justice continued with the arrest of Avery Taylor earlier this week under a warrant issued by the DC Superior Court. The DC Superior Court U.S. Marshals, together with local law enforcement agencies, played a role in apprehending Taylor and locating his alleged accomplices.
