Tragedy struck at Lake Pleasant's Desert Tortoise Campground yesterday, where two children were seriously injured after tumbling from a moving pickup truck. The Peoria Fire-Medical Department, alongside Daisy Mountain Fire, responded to the distressing scene near Desert Tortoise Road and Pallet Loop Road around 3 p.m., finding two minors who had fallen from the vehicle; the children were immediately treated and then transported by helicopter to a local hospital in serious condition, one child is in critical condition, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
According to the ABC 15 coverage on the incident, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said the children, both under the age of 10, were riding in the back of a pick-up on an inflatable raft before being ejected from the truck; however, details on the vehicle's speed or the identity of the driver at the time remain undisclosed to the public.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says charges may be filed as more details emerge. The identities of the children have not been released, and it’s unclear if the injured parties are related.
