The local law enforcement community is in mourning following the death of Sgt. Jared Jensen, a Utah police officer who bore his duties with courage both in the face of crime and against personal adversities. Sgt. Jensen passed away after a tenacious battle with brain cancer, as announced in a somber social media post by the Kaysville Police Department, as reported by KUTV.
Sgt. Jensen's career was as impactful as it was challenging. Starting in 2012, after earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Weber State University, he served in various capacities, including time with the Clinton City Police Department and the Sunset Police Department. Becoming an instructor at a police academy and later joining the Kaysville Police Department and U.S. Marshals, his extensive experience underpinned a reputation for unwavering dedication, as detailed by ABC4. Overcoming an ambush where an argument with his girlfriend led a suspect to open fire on his patrol car in 2012, Sgt. Jensen displayed remarkable survival.
Fellow officers and friends remember Sgt. Jensen fondly for his perseverance and his spirit of service. Kaysville Police Chief Solomon Oberg expressed the communal optimism that prevailed until recently for Sgt. Jensen’s return to duty. “We were hopeful that we’d get him back. Up until about two weeks ago, he was still determined that he was going to come back and put this uniform back on,” Chief Oberg said, as per KSLTV. Yet, despite facing down gunshots in a life-changing incident, where bullets traversing his patrol car's interior narrowly missed him, brain cancer became the one foe he could not defeat.
