Utah State Athletics has carved its mark not only on the field but also within the community. The school ranked No. 13 in the NCAA Division I Helper Helper Top 25 for its substantial commitment to community service during the 2024-25 academic year. According to USU Today, the institution's sports teams volunteered over 4,000 hours in the Logan and Cache Valley communities, providing an economic impact close to $150,000, calculated based on the national volunteer pay average.
These efforts were largely driven by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which represents all 16 NCAA Division I varsity programs at Utah State. This passionate group collectively dedicated 741 service hours to the cause, illustrating their aim to not only achieve athletically but also to touch the lives around them significantly. Diana Sabau, USU's Vice President and Director of Athletics, praised the student-athletes' dedication, declaring, "Utah State student-athletes continue to display their impact in Logan and the Cache Vally Community, volunteering over 4,000 hours of community engagement opportunities," she said, as per USU Today.
Utah State's student-athletes' commitment to service also shines through with six of their programs ranking in the top 10 for volunteer hours within their sport. Standout contributors included men's tennis at No. 2, women's tennis at No. 3, and men's basketball at No. 5. These numbers not only reflect the quantity of hours these young individuals are pouring into their communities but also underscore the quality of experiences they are providing.
Apart from fostering exceptional athletic skills, Utah State has made it a point to equally prioritize community engagement, a balance that Sabau seems to underline with pride. "Our impact in athletics extends beyond competition in games, creating a well-rounded student-athlete experience," Sabau highlighted, as reported by USU Today.
