
Waukegan, Illinois, saw the closure of a nearly three-year-old case with the arrest of Ilovani Gomez, 35, on charges related to a 2022 shooting that left a young woman severely wounded. Gomez was apprehended on Tuesday, in the proximity of S. Martin Luther King Ave. As outlined in a Chicago Police Department report, he faces two felony charges of attempted murder and one felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
The incident, which transpired on September 20, 2022, took place on the 3600 block of N. Elston Ave., critically injuring a 27-year-old female, whose identity has not been disclosed. The breakthrough in the case came after a lengthy investigation, which led detectives to identify Gomez as the suspected perpetrator.
Gomez now awaits the outcome of his detention hearing scheduled today. According to information released by the Chicago Police Department, no further details have been made available at this juncture.
