Earlier this morning, a shooting on the near north side of Indianapolis resulted in the death of a woman and serious injuries to a man. FOX59 reports that the incident occurred in the 3700 block of N. Pennsylvania Street, where the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) found two gunshot victims in an apartment. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was transported to the hospital in a condition described as stable, yet serious.

Sgt. William Young of the IMPD indicated that the shooting seems to have been domestic in nature, but witnesses are still being interviewed to confirm this. "Those arriving officers they did render aid to both of the victims until EMS arrived, and unfortunately, shortly after their arrival, the adult male was transported in stable condition but serious. And the adult female was pronounced [dead] here at the scene," Sergeant Young told FOX59. The shooter is reported to have fled the area before police could make an apprehension.

The location of the tragic occurrence, the Historic Dorchester apartments, is just south of the intersection for Pennsylvania and 38th streets. According to WISH-TV, no arrests have been made as of yet, and IMPD is reaching out to the public for assistance. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Det. Gary Toms with the IMPD Homicide Office or reach out via email.

Multiple reports of the shooting, which occurred just after 4 a.m., led officers to the scene. IMPD Sgt. William Young told WTHR that several other people were found inside the apartment unharmed. Detectives hope they're able to provide useful information to aid in the investigation.

IMPD has solicited help from anyone with details about this violent incident. The department can be contacted directly or via Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. The Marion County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the deceased woman once her family has been duly notified.
