A fatal traffic accident claimed the life of a woman in Hancock County late yesterday afternoon. The collision, involving a 2017 Acura ILX and a 2012 Ford F-350, took place at the intersection of County Road 600 East and U.S. Highway 40, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. FOX59 reported that emergency services responded to the crash around 3:35 p.m. where they found that the two vehicles had ended up in a field following the collision.
The deceased, an unidentified adult woman, was the sole occupant of the Acura and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the juvenile male driver of the F-350 sustained non-life-threatening injuries. According to Greenfield Reporter, the driver of the Acura was traveling north and had a stop sign at the intersection. In contrast, the Ford F-350, heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 40, did not have a stop sign.
Investigators are working to formally identify the Acura’s driver and notify her family of the tragic event. "The investigation is, however, ongoing," stated Capt. Robert Harris in a release obtained by the Greenfield Reporter. Meanwhile, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has ruled out drugs and alcohol as contributing factors in the incident as of now.
The driver of the F-350 was transported to IU Methodist Hospital, said FOX59. His parents and he have been cooperative with law enforcement throughout their investigation. During the investigation, the westbound U.S. Highway 40 was closed for approximately two hours, a situation causing traffic to be diverted, as deputies worked on the scene detailed in a release by WISH-TV.
