
An incident in Southwest Atlanta left a man dead after police say he fled the scene while armed with a rifle and a handgun. The Atlanta Police Department told 11Alive that officers were responding to a call about a shooting when they encountered the individual at approximately 7:34 a.m. at 2045 Alison Court SW last Saturday.
Upon arrival, police observed the man standing outside a residence equipped with the weapons. Before a dialogue could be initiated, the suspect initiated a flight from the authorities. Hearing shots fired in the vicinity while searching for the suspect, officers located the man, by then unresponsive. The confrontation ended with the man being shot by a civilian, not by police gunfire, authorities detailed to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the investigation is now being handled by Atlanta Homicide Detectives. They are working to uncover the events leading up to the fatal shooting. So far, no information has been released about the shooter or a possible motive. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of those involved, following standard procedure. According to media reports, no police officers fired their weapons during the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter remain under investigation.
