In the heat of a mid-July afternoon, the serenity of Monroe Drive was shattered by the echoes of a bank heist. Atlanta Police Department took Mr. Lyubomir Petleshkov into custody last Friday, ending a ten-day search after a PNC Bank robbery that saw the culprit flee on a scooter. Born in December 1985, Petleshkov faced charges for the robbery and, according to the Atlanta Police Department, was transported to Fulton County Jail without further incident.
Petleshkov is the only suspect in a July 15 robbery at a PNC Bank in northeast Atlanta, where he allegedly threatened employees with what he claimed was a grenade detonator—later found to be a key fob—and demanded $40,000. He left with $6,000 and fled the scene around 1:50 PM, wearing a dark brown bomber jacket and a face-covering hat. Police say he escaped into the city on a Lime scooter before they arrived.
In Petleshkov’s case, surveillance footage and images displayed on billboards and screens throughout the city played a key role in his capture. As the suspect’s face became widely recognized, public tips helped authorities track him down. The Atlanta Police Department has not yet released information regarding his motives or the details of his arrest.
