The Bay Area is set to experience a notable rise in temperatures going into the weekend. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco's forecast, inland areas can expect to see increasing heat levels from Thursday through Friday, likely leading to a moderate HeatRisk.

Residents, especially those more sensitive to heat, such as the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic diseases, are advised to take appropriate precautions. The NWS recommends drinking ample fluids, seeking shade during peak hours, and wearing light clothing to prevent heat-related illnesses. To stay cool during this time, it might become necessary to deliberately seek to spend less time outside, particularly during the hottest parts of the day.

The heating trend commences today, as stated in the NWS's recent Area Forecast Discussion. Following a cooler climate in the previous days, temperatures in inland valleys are expected to reach the upper 70s to mid-80s, while certain areas of Monterey and San Benito Counties may see temperatures soar to the upper 90s.

Aside from heat, there is also "some elevated fire weather threat" starting today and spanning through the weekend, particularly in the higher elevations. This is mainly due to low daytime humidity and localized gusts. The fire weather threat is expected to be diurnally driven, indicating that it will build each day with the heat and likely resolve overnight. Residents in these areas should prepare to quickly adapt to elevated fire dangers and follow any directives from local authorities to ensure safety.

As the weekend approaches, a slight temperature dip is forecasted with an upper-level disturbance passing through. However, the warmer pattern is anticipated to remain stable into early next week, with the NWS predicting ongoing warm temperatures inland, cooler coastal temperatures, and persistent light onshore winds each afternoon. Boaters must also be aware of a Small Craft Advisory issued for certain coastal waters due to expected fresh to strong winds starting this afternoon through Thursday.
