The Bay Area's brief siesta from summer heat is set to continue, according to the latest report from the National Weather Service San Francisco (NWS). While today remains cooler than usual, a pattern switch midweek suggests a warming trend is on the horizon, initiating Wednesday.

As the weekend rolls in, the marine layer is set to thicken, delving further inland by Sunday, July 6th. "Early morning drizzle and fog may also be more widespread for the beginning of next week," the National Weather Service underscored, flagging an increase in coastal cloud coverage. For now, inland areas will bask in sunshine, albeit cooler, with lighter winds compared to the days pasted. Those planning to hit the beach or take to the seas should expect a more pronounced marine presence at day's end and into the early parts of next week.

Aviation across the Bay has been playing peekaboo with various visibility conditions, from visual flight rules (VFR) to marginal VFR and instrument flight rules (IFR). A mix of VFR and MVFR-IFR conditions spread across the region, the NWS reports, with marine layer stratus hugging coastal locales. Airports may face temporary fluctuations through the morning, but widespread stratus is anticipated tonight. Moderate winds are also on the agenda for late afternoon to evening before tapering into Sunday morning.

In the maritime sphere, local sailors and fishermen are alerted to an extended period of robust northwesterly winds into the weekend. In a marine update, the National Weather Service remarked, "Moderate seas and a fresh to strong northwesterly breeze will continue into the weekend." Gale-force gusts are possible, particularly along the Big Sur coastline on Saturday afternoon. Come next week, winds should moderate, but intentions to unfurl those sails late next week could mean facing taller waves and stronger breezes once again.
